In keeping with our mission to strengthen the foundations of community, the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA is proud to recognize individuals, groups and corporations for their commitment to giving back to others in our geographic service area. Those selected will be formally recognized for their outstanding community service at the Y Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation.

Our service area communities are:

  • Boonton
  • Boonton Township
  • Butler
  • Denville
  • Kinnelon
  • Lincoln Park
  • Montville
  • Mountain Lakes
  • Parsippany
  • Pequannock
  • Riverdale

The Citizen of the Year Award is presented to individuals who, through his or her volunteer efforts, have made a difference in the quality of life for residents in the communities the Y serves. Nominations closed.

The Educator of the Year Award has two categories: K-8 Educator of the Year, and the High School Educator of the Year. Both honor education professionals who have gone above and beyond in the development of youth/teens in the Y’s service area, through a significant, positive, and guiding influence in one or more of the following areas:

  • the classroom
  • athletics
  • enrichment/extracurricular programs

Individuals may be nominated from any school, public or private, within the Y’s service area. Nominations closed.

The Bronie Parkins Community Service Award is presented to one eighth grade boy and one eighth grade girl based solely on community service.

  • This application requires two letters of recommendation. Each letter must be written by an adult who knows you well but is not a relative.
  • Letters of recommendation may be submitted electronically; please e-mail attachments in .doc, .docx or .pdf format to: Robb Elko.
  • If sending references by mail: Lakeland Hills Family YMCA, 100 Fanny Road, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046, ATTN: Robb Elko.

The two winning students will each receive a free one-year membership to the Y, and an engraved plaque at the Y Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation. The Y will also donate $100 in the recipient’s name to the charity of their choice. With this addition of a monetary donation, the Y hopes to help with much-needed fundraising that nonprofits and charities need to continue their mission. Having a direct call to action is a necessity for nonprofits, and by giving that choice to the Bronie Parkins Award recipients, it allows for a personal connection.

The winners, along with their parents and a teacher/mentor of his or her choice, are invited as our guests for the evening. Nominations closed.
