They are getting off to a great start at our school sites and helping kids make healthy choices and become better learners. Jen attended the “Healthy U” spring celebration last May and had the opportunity to listen to Gian Paul Gonzalez speak about being “All In.” It’s not just a slogan… it’s a lifestyle.
Everyone is concerned about the health and well being of children. “This is why we encouraged the schools of our Kids Club sites to participate in the “Healthy U” grant. We are excited to announce that Rockaway Valley and Lincoln Park Elementary Schools are joining the program.”
On August 9th and 10th Jen participated in the YMCA “Healthy U” School Champion training activities which offered strategies to implement this K-8th grade program effectively in the schools. It covers an overview of the CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program including Physical/Health Education, Child and Family Nutrition. They also had the chance to learn about Kinesthetic Classroom techniques and Action-Based Learning, which involved the relationship between body and brain.
“Our goal for this program is to promote health and wellness for children, faculty and parents and the Y celebrates this partnership with Rockaway Valley and Lincoln Park Elementary Schools as we promote Healthy U!”
