Local Students Win Prestigious Community Service Awards

Y recognizes two 8th graders and two high school seniors

The pandemic forced the closing of all public events including the Y’s Annual Dinner in May where individuals and students would normally be recognized for their community service. As student awards are given only at the end of middle school and at the end of high school, the Y felt it was important to recognize these students for their dedication and community service as they matriculate to high school and college, respectively.

The Bronie Parkins Award is presented to two 8th grade students based solely on community service. Winners receive a free one-year membership to the Y, an engraved plaque, and a $100 donation to the charity of their choice. We are proud to announce our 2020 recipients:

Yash Samat, Briarcliff Middle School, Mountain Lakes
Addison Shollenberger, John Hill School, Boonton

The William Kogen Award is presented to two graduating high school students based soley on community service. Winners receive a $1,000 college scholarship, a free one-year membership to the Y, and an engraved plaque. We are proud to announce our 2020 recipients:

Amy Yang, Parsippany Hills High School
Abigail DiLorenzo, Boonton High School
