Saturday March 10th was the first ever NJ Maker’s day at the YMCA where they partnered with Project Makers Space. The event was open to the public and the first of its kind at Lakeland Hills. The day showcased “Exploring Nature” themed robotics created by 15 teams of 2. The participants of the contest ranged from 2nd – 6th grades. After the judges had the opportunity to see all of the projects, a winner was crowned for the Junior (7-8 year olds) and Senior (9-11 year olds) Divisions. The winners of the contest were: Luciana Quadrel and Divsha Arora for the juniors and Logan Fitzpatrick and Daniyal Mohammed for the seniors.
In addition to the project showcase, the Y also offered a variety of STEAM activities that the children could take part in for the afternoon. Some of those activities included: Dry Ice Smoker Ring Launchers, Dry Ice Smoke Bubble Handling, Squishy Circuits with LED lights and motors, Binary Code Name Necklaces, Black-light room with Vampire Slime, Scratch Computer Programming games and so much more! The event was a great success with over 150 participants! Shown here, left to right, junior winners Divsha Arora and Luciana Quadrel with Kids Club & Youth Sports Director, Dave Nunez.
