Polar Plunge is a chilly jump in the lake for the YMCA

On a rainy and foggy Sunday in January, what’s better to do than take a dip in the lake? For some 60 intrepid individuals, a "polar plunge" into the waters off Island Beach in Mountain Lakes was exactly the way to spend such a winter’s day.

Lakeland Hills Family YMCA’s second annual Polar Plunge, which took place on Jan. 10, may have occurred in weather far from ideal for beach-going, but it raised $15,889 for the Give A Kid the Y fund, which offers financial assistance to children and families to participate in YMCA programming. More than 200 people signed up either to plunge or to be a spectator and helped the “plungers” to exceed their goal of $15,000.
