How to Choose a Camp

Find the Best Summer Day Camp!

With many day camps to choose from, picking the right camp for your child can be overwhelming. From  full-day traditional camp to specialty camps,  to sports camps, we’ve got you covered.

Looking for options for your 2 1/2 to 5-year old? Click here for the preschool summer options.

Here are some tips to help you find the best fit for your child.

Make choosing a camp fun and let your kids have a say. Is there a new experience they’d like to try? Involve your kids in the decision early and it will help guide your choices.

Do your kids like a wide variety of activities? Full day camp has a little bit of something for everyone. Got a budding basketball, gymnastic, tennis or soccer star? You can hone their skills in sports camp. Have a natural performer? Send them to our performing arts camp. Love science, technology, engineering, and math? Join our Makers camp.

The best day camp also needs to be convenient for your family schedule. YMCA day camps are held in two-week sessions. Full-day programs run from 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday – Friday. We also offer full day camps for preschoolers. Each session has a different theme or exciting special event.

Here at the YMCA, our day camp counselors attend 20 hours of training before day camp starts. Our training is thorough. Basic first aid, how to be a leader and a role model for kids and training in the YMCA way are all part of those 20 hours.

We strive to maintain a 1:8 ratio in our day camps. Campers are separated into groups based on age and grade. Each group has two counselors in a group of 14 –16. Additional staff is hired for the older groups with 20-25 campers.

Our camps are filled with swimming, arts and crafts, sports and games. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, fun day at camp for your child. We want every camper to try a new activity and discover hidden talents and strengths, plus make new friends. The Y teaches and models our character traits: respect, responsibility, caring, honesty.

We will have a camp meet and greet Saturday, June 13. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the staff at that time. More details to follow.
