Lakeland Hills Y Competitive Swim Team

The purpose of the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA Competitive Swim Team is to use competition as a means of learning the lifelong values of goal setting and discipline for success.

Swimmers will learn to improve their skills as well as learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship within a competitive atmosphere led by capable coaches. Our coaches exemplify YMCA leaders who strive to build not only character but children who are healthy in body, mind and spirit.

The Lakeland Hills Y Swim Team competes in the NJ YMCA Swim League and USA Swimming competitions. With a long tradition of winning and sportsmanship, Lakeland Hills Y has a coaching staff dedicated to the development of the all-around swimmer. Swim Team Tryouts Results 2023-2024

First of all, we would like to thank all of the swimmers that attended the LHY Swim Team Tryouts this year. With more than 100 swimmers in attendance, many who came to evaluations with previous competitive experience, it made the selection process very difficult. Whether or not we were able to offer a spot on the team to your athlete, we appreciate everyone’s effort and courage to come out for our team.

If your child was selected for the 2023-2024 LHY Swim Team, his/her name will be listed
alphabetically by group with a practice group assignment next to his/her name. The practice group assignment coincides with the practice schedule as well as the associated fees. To secure your child’s spot on the team, a non-refundable $300 deposit must be made no later than August 25th, 11:59PM.

If your child has a LHYMCA membership that is current, you may pay the deposit online here (starting 8/11/2023 at 6pm) or at the member service desk. If the membership has expired or your child does not have a LHYMCA membership, the deposit along with the membership fees must be made in person during regular business hours at the front desk (Mon-Fri 8am-8PM, Sat & Sun 8AM-5PM).

Lastly, the practice groups are not interchangeable. If a swimmer has a conflict with another activity, he/she may not attend another practice group’s practice to make it up. We have placed athletes where we believe they have the best chance of success. Barring clerical error, there will be no changes to practice group placement before October 1st. Practices start the week of September 11

If your child made the team and you paid the deposit by the deadline, you will receive an email with further instructions for the team’s website access and account. If for some reason you are not accepting your spot on the team please let us know ASAP (13/overs contact Coach Matt [matt@lhyswim.com], 12/under contact Coach Greg [greg@lhyswim.com]. Thank you again to all swimmers that came out for the team. Best of luck this year!

Team Building

Swim team gives youth the opportunity to be a part of a team while still striving to be their individual best.

Individual Progress

Our goal is to develop within each swimmer the desire to succeed, a willingness to work hard, self-discipline and self-confidence, a sense of sportsmanship and loyalty to their team.

Health and Fitness

Swimming is an activity that an individual can do for life. Swimmers build strength, speed and endurance through a variety of training techniques.

Stroke Technique

Swimmers work with trained coaches to refine and improve on their stroke technique. Swimmers work on the four basic strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as turns and starts.

Core Values

The YMCA strives in all programs to display and teach our five core values: respect, responsibility, honesty, caring and faith.

Year-round

Choosing to be on a swim team offers you an option to swim all year-round.
