Youth Basketball programs

Youth Basketball at Lakeland Hills YMCA helps kids build skills, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship through clinics, leagues, and skill-based programs

Where the Game Began. Where Kids Still Grow.

Basketball has deep roots in the YMCA. The game was created in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith at a YMCA training school as a way to keep young people active, engaged, and working together.

Today, Youth Basketball at Lakeland Hills YMCA continues that tradition by helping kids learn the game, build confidence, develop teamwork, and experience the achievement, belonging, and relationships that make sports meaningful.

Whether your child is just learning to dribble or ready for league play, our basketball programs create a supportive place to grow on and off the court.

Basketball Clinics

Basketball Clinics at Lakeland Hills Family YMCA help players build confidence, learn the fundamentals, and strengthen their skills in a fun, supportive setting.

Clinics are offered for three age groups so each child can learn at an appropriate pace:

Little Ballers | Ages 4–6
A beginner-friendly introduction to basketball focused on movement, coordination, listening skills, dribbling, passing, shooting, and having fun on the court.

Junior Basketball | Ages 7–9
Players continue building core basketball skills through drills, games, and guided instruction. This clinic helps children improve ball handling, passing, shooting, footwork, teamwork, and game awareness.

Senior Basketball | Ages 10–13
Designed for older players who are ready to sharpen their skills, build confidence, and prepare for league play or continued basketball development. Players work on fundamentals, court movement, offensive and defensive concepts, and positive competition.

No matter their age or ability, players will build confidence, improve fundamental skills, and develop a stronger understanding of the game. Through a combination of drills, skill-building activities, and games, our clinics help kids grow as athletes, teammates, and leaders.

Practices, Games, and Team Placement

For league programs, players may participate in skill evaluations or showcases to help create balanced teams. These evaluations help coaches place players appropriately and support a fair, positive experience for everyone.

Schedules, team placement details, and game information vary by session and will be shared with registered participants before the season begins.
