Adult Pickleball

The Fastest Growing Sport in the Country

We are excited at Lakeland Hills YMCA to offer what is being described as the fastest growing sport in the country. What is pickleball? Pickleball is a racket sport which combines badminton, tennis and table tennis. The pickleball court dimensions are the same as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net but mounted two inches lower. One of the MANY advantages to Pickleball is that it is a sport for ALL ages and skill levels. Pickleball games and pickleball tournaments are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.

Pickleball Moves Outdoors During Renovation: Lake Rickabear in Kinnelon

When we reopen after our Annual Facility Improvement Week on Monday, September 2, pickleball will head to a beautiful new setting — Lake Rickabear in Kinnelon. Join us Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM for open play on eight outdoor courts

Imagine enjoying fresh air, sunshine, and the sound of paddles popping while surrounded by the scenic backdrop of Lake Rickabear. It’s the perfect combination of friendly competition, social connection, and natural beauty.

And you won’t be on your own — a YMCA court monitor will be onsite during all scheduled times to keep play organized and ensure everyone has a great experience. You’ll still feel that same welcoming Y presence, now with a lakeside view.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a paddle for the first time, outdoor pickleball is the perfect way to stay active, connect with others, and make the most of this renovation season.

Grab your paddle, rally your friends, and meet us at Lake Rickabear — where your game just got a breath of fresh air.

Pickleball is popular!

Due to the large numbers of players, we must give priority to our facility members. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

PICKLEBALL PROTOCOLS MUST BE FOLLOWED:

  • Paddles are placed in groupings of 4 on the floor while waiting for an open court
  • If you’re unhappy with your foursome or available court, you MUST forfeit your place in line.
  • Players may not remove another player’s paddle from the group.
  • Players may not save a place for another player.
  • Games will be played to 7 points when the courts are full and at least 8 players are waiting.
  • Games will be played to 11 if attendance is low.
  • If there aren’t enough players waiting for the next open court, one or both winners from the previous game stay on the court and play another game, but they must be split.
  • If one player is waiting, 3 people can stay on the court, but the winners must be split.
  • Gym monitor has final authority on all activity.

Physical Health

The pickleball community is an excellent example of how staying active can improve one’s physical health. From increasing strength to boosting the immune system to improving sleep — playing pickleball on a regular basis packs in a lot of physical health benefits.

Mental and Emotional Benefits

If you’ve ever felt a mood boost during or after a game of pickleball, it’s about more than just having fun. When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins, which are the feel good chemicals that elevate mood. Regular exercise has been known to ward off anxiety, fight depression and boost self esteem.

Social Wellness

Humans are a social species. Even the most reclusive and solitary people need interaction with humans at some point or another. There is growing evidence that socializing lowers the risk of dementia. Pickleball, often played with four people on the court at the same time, is an excellent conduit for broadening your social web and increasing the amount of face-to-face interaction with your fellow humans. Plus, Pickleball is a sport for all ages so the whole family can play together!
