- This is a great opportunity for younger swimmers to enjoy shared water time during our family aquatic hours. Children under 12 years must be supervised by a parent in the pool area. Children under 7 years must have an adult in the lane with them. Bubble and flotation devices are permitted during Family Lap Swim.
Parent and Me A & B
At the YMCA, our goal is to create a healthy respect for water to keep youth safe while creating a lifelong love of aquatics environments. Accompanied by a parent*, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building swim lessons experiences. At the same time, parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
-
Infants and toddlers will be introduced to the aquatic environment safely and comfortably to gain confidence and a healthy respect for the water. As students’ progress and grow, they begin to explore body positions, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatics skills. Please have your child wear a waterproof swim diaper. No disposable diapers at any time. For children 6 – 18 months, register for Parent and Me A Class. For children 18 – 36 months, register for Parent and Me B.

ISR – Infant Swimming Safety
Our program teaches infants and young children critical self-rescue skills, emphasizing the “swim-float-swim” sequence to help them navigate potential water emergencies. Through fully customized, one-on-one lessons led by an ISR Certified Instructor, children build competence and confidence—foundations for a lifetime of safe, enjoyable experiences in and around the water.
Ideally suited for ages 6 months to 3 years old, this unique ISR program is personalized to each child’s developmental stage. Participants must be able to sit up and crawl independently to enroll. Class schedules and fees vary based on individual needs and may include consecutive daily lessons. We prioritize safety at every turn, ensuring each child gains practical survival skills while learning to love the water.

Building Water Confidence
Parents can help establish trust by sitting back from the class and allowing external guidance, problem-solving, etc. Talk with your child(ren) about their time at lessons and your role during this time versus formal instruction. If needed, talk with the water coach about how to help establish boundaries.
Open Pool Time
Enjoy recreational pool time to build comfort in the water by spending time together during a recreational swim at your local YMCA.
Prevent Drowning
Safety is the number one priority around any depth of water. Learn about water safety and family-friendly pool practices.
