About Our Camp and Program Details

The focus of the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA Summer Day Camps is to foster individuality, creativity, socialization, and fun inside of our campers!

So many families have expressed to us how important it is for their children to have a safe outdoor camp experience after this extended period of social isolation. Building upon our successful 2020 camp season, we are implementing plans to provide a fun and safe experience for our campers and give them a summer to remember!

The safety of all our campers and staff is our top priority. We will continue to follow the most current guidelines from health authorities, the state and local governments, the CDC, and American Camp Association as we create a safe and healthy camp experience. In Camp 2020 we served 160 campers per day with an outstanding outcome. We have proven why, when “Best Practices” are followed, everyone is safe!

Our school-age camp program serves children from 1st through 11th grade (in fall 2021). Campers will have a great experience building character and independence through a variety of age-appropriate activities led by thoughtful, caring staff.

Your camper gets to be a kid again as we create, grow, and explore at camp in 2021!

FAQS About YMCA Summer Day Camps

Here at the YMCA, our camp counselors attend 30 hours of training before day camp starts. Our training is thorough and includes:

  • Basic first aid
  • COVID safety training
  • Child abuse prevention
  • How to be a leader and a role model for kids
  • Social Emotional Learning
  • Group Management
  • Risk Management

We will maintain smaller group sizes of 10 campers with 1 counselor.  Campers will also interact in Pods of 3 groups (their division) giving them an opportunity to foster more friendships. They will be in Pods for Afternoon Division Time Activities, Big Fun Time, and Special Events. This is to minimize exposure and make contact tracing easier during the COVID pandemic.

Our camps are filled with swimming, arts and crafts, sports, science, and games. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, fun day at camp for your child. We want every camper to try a new activity and discover hidden talents and strengths, plus make new friends. The Y teaches and models our character traits: respect, responsibility, caring, honesty. With the elements of Social-Emotional Learning, campers will be able to rebuild relationships in social settings.

We will have a virtual meet and greet in June. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the staff at that time. More details to follow.

THINK OUTSIDE

At YMCA Summer Day Camp, kids exchange screen time for plenty of fresh air, friends, and active play. Your child will explore nature, discover new interests, build self-esteem, and learn new skills. We energize their summer with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities. Camp is the place to be for messy fun! There is something for every child at YMCA Summer Day Camp! And you will love our caring counselors who create fun, safe environments where kids can flourish.

“The staff is the best I’ve ever seen, and my son has a blast every day.” – Stephanie, YMCA parent.

Special Kids Organized Recreation Services

Monday – Friday | 9:00AM – 4:00PM

Our summer-camp program encourages and supports the participation of individuals with disabilities in all programs and services. Inclusion in our summer camp means that individuals with disabilities (including but not limited to: ADD, ADHD, ODD, OCD, Sensory Issues and Spectrum Disorders) are welcome to participate in the same environment as their peers. The SKOR Camp will allow campers to be exposed to the same activities as day camp, but with an individualized schedule and a counselor assigned to 1-3 campers. The counselors of these groups will work with a Behavior Specialist to target a wide range of skills including conversations: (i.e., winning and losing, personal space, joining a group, social cues and so much more).

Our team of qualified staff ensures that your child has a fun, successful, quality experience within a camp setting. If an aide is provided, at the parent’s expense, we are happy to work with them to ensure the best outcome for your child. Aides recruited by families will be required to go through YMCA training and background checks. Additional information and an intake meeting with the new families is required prior to enrollment.

Due to COVID, travel is restricted, and we have planned a revised LIT (Leaders-In-Training) program to give teens with a balance of social time with peers as well as leadership and service opportunities related to the camp program. It is this balance that will give teens the responsibility to help them find success in the future. Teens are expected to participate in all facets of the program.

For the safety of all campers, this season we have combined elements through work and play to bring out the leader in each camper.

Sample Schedule for LITs:

  • 9:00-9:15 AM: Drop-off and morning meetings briefing
  • 9:15-9:45 AM: Assignments to help with morning rotation set-up
  • 10:00-11:15 AM: Teen Time – traditional age-appropriate camp activities (physical and non-physical).
  • 11:15-12:15: Help your assigned Activity Leader with lunch
  • 12:15-1:00 PM: Lunch and ice cream
  • 1:00-3:00 PM: Leadership Projects – help and plan camp special events projects, fun social time, and a special activity just for LITs weekly.
  • 3:00-3:45 PM: Assist Activity Leader with weekly afternoon activities (Big Fun Time, Foodie Fridays, Clean Up, etc.)

The LIT program will now have the opportunity for 20 service hours weekly. Letters will be provided by the Camp Director in September based on participation. Please allow one week after request is submitted to receive letter.
